How Much Do You Make?

March 25, 2011

If you work for Wal-Mart in accordance to their policy and procedure manual you can not discuss your pay to other employee’s as a term of employment. So if you asked a fellow associate “How much do you make?’ you could be fired and most likely would be.

The employees at Wal-Mart were kept in the dark about differences in the pay scale between men and women and advancements within the company which led to discriminatory practices within the company as alleged.

A greeter for Wal-Mart brought suit against the company when she felt she was being discriminated against because of her gender.   The case “Dukes vs Wal-Mart”  has been to trail and judges have ruled the case could proceed as a class action lawsuit and now heads to the Supreme Court. Lawyers decided to proceed with the case as a class action lawsuit to represent the million women who work for the Wal-Mart Corporation using rule 23 which stipulates the criteria that must be met. With this lawsuit the individuals working for Wal-Mart are looking for back pay and punitive damages where the employer discriminated against this class of employees.

Wal-Mart is one of the largest employer in our nation with sales last year over 350 billion dollars. So, if you want to go to work for a company and one of the policies states you can not ask the question of others working there, “How much do you make?” as a prerequisite for employment, there might be something happening suspicious within the pay scales, possibly. So you might want to run just as fast as you can!

Violence Cannot Continue

March 17, 2011

Alain Juppe the French Foreign Minister speaking to the United Nation discusses a resolution to  create a no fly zone in Libya. Mr. Juppe stipulates the violence cannot continue as military forces attack their own people in attempts to stop the uprising in all territories of the country.  He goes on to state the crimes against the people are unwarranted and need to be stopped.

The voting went 10 votes for, 0 against and 5 non votes. There will be risks involved, however the acts of violence must stop.  With Kaddafi in power the citizens live in fear with each breathe they take not knowing it that breathe will be their last.   Our President made a strong statement a few weeks ago saying Kaddafi must go and now the United Nations also is sending the same message as they pass this resolution.

This is one more area in the World we must watch to see what the outcome will be. Will the citizens rise up to take control of their country and put together a government for the people or will they slowly become the problem as they fight for their mother land?  Time will tell as each day passes.  If a true leader comes out of the shadows and rises up to lead the revolt toward a new government that will work for the people they will have hope.   We all know regardless of who takes power, the violence cannot continue against the people.

Are You Listening!

March 16, 2011

On the floor in the House today both sides discussed amendments to the Neighborhood Stabilization Program which the Republicans want to defund and save taxpayers 1 billion dollars of the 7 billion dollar program.  Sides are passionately debating what should be done with the billion dollars that are left in the program thus far unspent.  To the Democrats and Republicans alike elected by the people,  ARE YOU LISTENING!

We are a bankrupt nation do you not remember! We continue to borrow 43 cents out of every dollar spent in the Halls of Congress.  We now are over 12 trillion dollars in debt with just under 2 trillion this past year. Finally we have over 112 trillion, that is 11.2 billion billion dollars in unfunded mandates which are or will be due within the next ten years. Congress ARE YOU LISTENING!

Stop spending what you don’t have! Balance the budget and spend only what you need to spend. The times are hard and we as a nation need leaders how understand entitlements are not part of our Constitution.  We can not continue to fund programs that do not perform functions relegated by our Constitution.

If there is blight in neighborhoods let the local, county or city government handle the problem.  The Federal Government does not need to buy these properties nor offer money to others to buy them. WE are a broke nation, let’s act like one and do what is finally right for the citizens and the States.  Congress, ARE YOU LISTENING!

NFIP in the Red

March 12, 2011

National Flood Insurance Program is in trouble according to hearings on the Hill today.  They have 18 billion dollar debt with taxpayers on the hook for approximately 5 million homeowners who have this federal flood insurance.

Experts stated the rates must increase so private insurance companies will offer flood insurance so the government won’t have so many policies. Here is another example of government involvement putting  taxpayers on the hook for billions just like the postal service.

Who Can We Trust

March 10, 2011

As we deal with the rising deficits occurring in local, state and federal governments we have to ask ourselves, “Who Can We Trust!” Just about everyone in politics will tell you one thing and then once you turn your back, bam they do something contrary to what they had stated.

As we listen to politicians on the Hill giving their speeches we have to ask ourselves once again, “Who Can We Trust”.  Representative Maxine Waters is on the floor stating people what jobs and the Republicans are attempting to dismantle the Health Care Reform bill.  She goes on to state no one is going to jail over the fraudulent activities on wall street and someone should be going to jail over the housing market crisis.

At Patriot Express Radio we agree with Ms. Waters, someone should go to jail over the crisis created by those in power. We will start with Ms. Waters as one of those who should be in jail when the Bush administration wanted to investigate Freddie and Fannie back in 2004, she was at the front of the line stating those at Freddie and Fannie did not have a problem.  As a matter of fact she stated ” We do not have a crisis at Freddie Mac and in particular at Fannie Mae under the outstanding leadership of Mr. Frank Raines.” Mr. Raines later would be found to be cooking the books to receive million dollar bonuses for his outstanding leadership skills.

Today we have members of Congress discussing the dismantling of both entities citing problems stemming from  millions of dollars going to campaigns to key members of  Congress to turn their heads and let the corruption within the organizations carry on.  We don’t like to look back and point fingers however we must understand that the corruption from within caused this housing crisis which we will not climb out of for at least 10 years if not more.

We as Americans must not let corrupt politicians continue to erode the quality of life for all citizens to further their personal agenda’s.   Now we have to deal with political leaders who ran campaigns to do what is right for their constituents and again we have to ask, “Who Can We Trust?

Power Starts With You!

March 8, 2011

As we travel across the country discussing the issues that affect all citizens we run across one common statement from most individuals. Most citizens believe the government has too much power and they would be correct. The government has too much power because we allowed the power to move away from the States and the citizens as the years rolled by.

So today we have campaigns gearing up for elections across the nation once again. Whether for local, state, or federal everyone will be telling the American people what they believe needs to be done in order to win their campaigns. We will once again hear candidates on stump tours touting how they hear your voices and will be their to serve you. They will talk about the issues, some will have solutions while others will just blast their challengers.

But one thing is clear the American people need to understand in today’s environment, the power starts with you!  That is right, the power starts with you when you go to the meetings, the rallies and the town halls to listen to those you will choose to elect. If they have the message which reflex your values and principles they have a chance to be your voice. If not, they need to find a new vocation.

The time is here as we travel a new path toward history in these United States of America for all citizens to use their power to elect representatives that will work for you, that will work for what you believe in, that will take your power to the office they win and vote for your voice.  Don’t let politics as usual  continue to erode the quality of life here in America as it has for the past 100 years.

Speak up as you listen to candidates and ask them the hard questions that you want to know.  Speak out and have your voice heard by using your power to be heard by those who want your vote.  Remember the Power Starts With You and the other way around.

Really, Stop The Insanity

March 3, 2011

Blog reprinted from Terry Suominen’s wordpress blog.

Once again the U.S. District Court Judge from Florida is in the news.  January 31, 2011 he filed his 78 page opinion stating the health care reform bill was unconstitutional.  It appears as if the Department of Justice didn’t understand the opinion handed down so filed a motion to clarify.  So Judge Vinson stated once again the health care reform bill is UNCONSTITUTIONAL in its entirety.

Just a few days ago President Obama and Eric Holden stated they would no longer pursue cases concerning marriages outside that of a man and a woman. The reason, they felt the law was unconstitutional without a court offering an opinion to support their assessment. Really, stop the insanity now.

The political system in our country has taken the common man out of the equation because of their disdain for those in office.  We talked with many individuals over the past year that stated they don’t vote because their vote doesn’t count any more.  The politicians do what they want when they want regardless of the constitutionality of the laws or regulations they pass or attempt to pass are statements heard across the nation.

As a citizen of these United States your vote does count and you need to understand when elected officials are held accountable for their actions they will do the right thing for their constituents a majority of the time. Of course there are some who will not listen to those who elected them but with your vote you can replace them.

So let’s stop the insanity in our political arena and let those elected to serve us do what is right for the people, for the states, and for the country or replace them with your voice and your vote. We can take control of our political system if we stay vigilant.

Who’s In Control?

March 2, 2011

Who’s in control?  Everyone wants to know I am positive.  With chaos blooming in Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, even in the great state of Nevada rallies are happening in the Capitals to fight for and against the ideologies of the newly elected Governors. Who actually runs everyday operations of our government?

In Wisconsin last weekend there were close to 100 thousand demonstrators from all across the nation rallying to support the union members that Scott Walker has alienated by proposing budget cuts that affect their pay.  He has a 2 billion dollar shortfall in the treasury that has to be addressed according to the State Constitution which mandates a balanced budget with no deficit spending allowed.

Those at the rally support their pay and their benefits as they state they deserve them.  In one interview a teacher stated she deserves everything she receives and Governor Walker doesn’t have the right to take away what is rightfully hers. We presume she was talking about the collective bargaining issue because the union stated they agreed to raise the percentage of contributions members make to their health care and retirement packages. The union employees pay 6% of their health care cost and nothing towards their retirement benefits. They, the employees who belong to the union are willing to sacrifice

On the other side individuals are rallying in support of Scott Walker and his attempt to reign in the special perks government employees enjoy due to the union influence during contract negotiations.  Those private sector employees express concern over the salaries of public sector employees which by some estimates are up to 50% higher than theirs.  They also believe government employees should pay more for insurance and retirement benefits such as theirs.  More than the 6.0% and 5.8% proposed as stated above.

Rallies across the country hit the capitals with citizens from both sides expressing their views of the budget cuts, the unions and the governors.  It appears as if all the freshmen Governors are holding true to their campaign promises.  They promised to cut the size and scope of their state bureaucracies and reduce the spending without raising taxes.

So who is in control really, do we know yet. Democratic Senators  left the state because they do not have the votes to stop the legislation from passing. They were elected to represent the people not run and hide from them as they are doing. So we have to ask the question once again, who’s in control?  Is the Governor in control or is it the people once again on both sides who are taking a stand for what they believe in?
